MPMS Instrumental Music
(2004-2005)
Mr. Horn
All students must attend weekly lessons.
Each student is assigned to a lesson group; that group is assigned a weekly lesson time on a rotating basis. Students are invited to reschedule a lesson that might conflict with a class. Students are required to attend 90% of their scheduled lessons in each ten-week marking period. The only exception for this rule is the "Excused Absence": this is whenever the student is not able to attend a scheduled lesson due to circumstances beyond his control, e.g., school is closed, teacher is absent, etc. Please note: student absence from school due to illness is not an Excused Absence and the lesson must be made up. Students are advised, therefore, not to miss a week hoping to make it up later in the marking period. It is your responsibility to know when your lesson is; keep up with the lesson schedule! The schedule is posted on the bulletin board outside Room 121 and on www.mtpleasant-ms.org/hornspage.
All students must perform playing tests each marking period; this will help determine their grade.
Playing Tests are made up of music to be performed in upcoming concerts and scales and exercises from the Standard of Excellence books. If the student practices regularly throughout the marking period, he will do well on the test.
The students' grade for Band each marking period is determined by the grading rubric.
Each student will receive a copy of the rubric.
All students must participate in all concerts.
Failure to attend concerts will adversely affect the student's grade.
All students must attend all band rehearsals.
Failure to attend band rehearsals without an excuse approved by Mr. Horn (or being absent from school) will adversely affect the student's grade. The Band/Chorus/Orchestra/Jazz Band rehearsal schedule is posted on the bulletin board outside Room 121 and on www.mtpleasant-ms.org/hornspage.
